Common questions

The recipe doesn't match what I mix.

Every recipe is a calculated starting point: pigments vary between brands and batches. Mix a small test patch, then use Check My Mix to photograph it in daylight. The app will tell you whether to go lighter, darker, warmer or duller.

How do I mix only from the paints I own?

Go to More, then My palette, and tap the paints you have (or load your class palette list). Then set "Mix from" to "My palette" on the Sample tab.

How do I load my class palette list?

Your teacher can share a plain text file with one paint name per line. In More, then My palette, tap "Load palette list" and choose the file. The app tells you if any names weren't recognized.

Compare says my whole painting is lighter or darker than the photo.

Phone cameras often brighten or darken a whole picture. Turn on "Even out camera exposure" in Compare, and photograph your painting in even daylight without glare.

The shapes don't line up in Compare.

Tap "Adjust corners" and drag each dot exactly onto a corner of the painting. If your canvas has different proportions from the photo, some stretching is normal.

Where are my saved study images?

Saved value studies, color studies and comparisons go to your Photos library. If you're asked, allow DollopMix to add photos.

Does DollopMix collect my photos or data?

No. Everything is analyzed on your phone and nothing is sent anywhere. See our Privacy Policy.
